THE OATH Trailer Showcases The Lighter Side of Families Torn Apart By Politics

Nothing says "Thanksgiving" like a taser to the head.

If you're anything like me, you know someone whose family has been ripped apart by politics. Hell, maybe you even are that someone. The country's rarely been as divided as it is now, under the slow-motion trainwreck that is the Trump administration, and tempers are running very, very hot, indeed.

One might be inclined to say, "There's nothing funny about that", but let's be honest: there's comedy to be found everywhere, in even the darkest corners of our lives, and sometimes it's therapeutic to laugh at the things we simply can't control.

Like our families.

This is the first teaser trailer for Ike Barinholtz's The Oath, which hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles on October 12th. As you can see, the film features Barinholtz and the consistently hilarious Tiffany Haddish as a young couple who finds themselves behind enemy lines during Thanksgiving dinner, in an alternate-reality version of America where citizens have been asked to pledge an oath of loyalty to the government ("alternate-reality", yes, but tell me that shit doesn't sound all too plausible right now).

Are Americans ready to laugh at our ever-growing political divide? Are you? Speaking as someone who's been living out this exact same comedy of errors for the past two years, I'm honestly not sure. There's certainly nothing funny about the fact that my holidays have turned into a grotesque, tongue-biting charade ... but the idea of belligerent family members being tased for laughs is, admittedly, very attractive.

What do you folks think? Gonna give The Oath a shot once it hits theaters, or think you'll need some time before you can laugh at this kinda thing? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned for more on The Oath as it becomes avaialable.
