The New Season Of STRANGER THINGS Is Partially Inspired By FLETCH
In a new interview with Variety, Stranger Things star David Harbour has revealed something surprising: the show's forthcoming third season was apparently inspired by Fletch, the 1985 Chevy Chase vehicle directed by Michael Ritchie.
Here's the exact quote:
“[Stranger Things creators and directors] The Duffers are so specific each year with the movies. And Fletch is one movie we get to play around and have some fun with this season, which you wouldn’t expect from Stranger Things and you wouldn’t expect from the Spielberg universe and you certainly wouldn’t expect from a darker season.’”
We have no idea how Fletch might factor into the world of Stranger Things, but I suppose we can take some educated guesses. Maybe the Hawkins gang will adopt disguises while attempting to solve the show's latest mystery. Maybe one mystery will eventually turn out to have unexpected ties to another. Maybe someone's gonna sing "Moon River" while receiving a most invasive physical from M. Emmet Walsh. Really, the possibilities are endless.
We won't know precisely how Fletch factors into Stranger Things' third season for some time - the next batch of episodes won't arrive until next summer - but the good news is, that gives all of you plenty of time to catch up on one of my all-time favorite comedies (fun fact: I watch Fletch every year on my birthday). Better get caught up now, before Stranger Things S3 arrives and confounds you with all its Babar, Hopalong Cassidy, and steak sandwich references.
Stay tuned for more on Stranger Things as further updates roll in.
