Unsurprisingly, The Full Trailer For THE FAVOURITE Is Beautiful And Weird

Looks like Yorgos Lanthimos has hit another meticulously-crafted homerun.

Here's something I, a film lover, am deeply thankful for: the fact that Yorgos Lanthimos is out there making his weird-ass movies. The director's previous efforts (including Dogtooth, The Lobster and last year's The Killing of a Sacred Deer) are not what we generally think of as "crowd-pleasers", but they perform well with critics and apparently earn just enough money to keep Lanthimos working. Given the state of things, that's kinda miraculous.

Anyway, Lanthimos' next film is headed our way, and we couldn't be more excited about it.

This is the first full trailer for Lanthimos' The Favourite, which looks...yup, that definitely looks like a Lanthimos joint. The cast (including Emma Stone, Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz) is outstanding, the dialogue's weird, every image looks meticulously-crafted. It's interesting to see Lanthimos working on a period picture, and doubly so in that it seems to be cast primarily with women.

Here's an official plot synopsis:

"In the early 18th century, England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne, and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant, Abigail (Emma Stone), arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing, and Abigail sees a chance to return to her aristocratic roots."

The Favourite opens in select U.S. theaters on November 23rd, before a worldwide rollout in January of next year. You folks into this one? Not so much?
