SORRY TO BOTHER YOU’s Lakeith Stanfield Just Joined UNCUT GEMS

Just when you thought the Safdie Brothers' latest couldn't sound more exciting.

Look, we were already hyped for the Safdie Brothers' Uncut Gems, a crime-dramedy starring Adam Sandler, Eric Bogosian and Judd Hirsch; we're excited for anything these guys do in the wake of last year's truly outstanding Good Time. But now they've gone and added Sorry to Bother You's Lakeith Stanfield to the cast, and our hype levels are such that we're starting to get concerned. This movie may well kill us before it even arrives.

The news comes to us from Deadline:

"Set in the Diamond district of New York City, Sandler will star as a jewelry store owner with a gambling addiction who is juggling two relationships and escalating debts. Stanfield will play a key ally to a famous client of the jewelry store. As we previously revealed, Eric Bogosian and Judd Hirsch are also set to star in the film, which is likely to shoot later this year. Casting is ongoing."

Stanfield's one of the best young actors working in Hollywood today, and Uncut Gems is lucky to have him. Dude made quite the impression in last year's Get Out, was one of the more enjoyable elements of Adam Wingard's Death Note, and, well, you probably don't need to be told how great he was in Boots Riley's Sorry to Bother You (unless, of course, you never got around to seeing Sorry to Bother You, in which case: rectify that immediately). We're hyped to hear he's joined this cast.

As Deadline noted above, Uncut Gems doesn't shoot until later this year, so we've got a bit of a wait ahead of us on this one. In addition to seeking out Sorry to Bother You, we recommend you spend the interim also getting caught up on Good Time, one of the best films of the past five years.

Stay tuned for more on Uncut Gems as further updates become available.
