That BARBIE Movie Is Still A Thing, Now Likely With Margot Robbie

It’s been a long road getting a Barbie movie made. The initial idea was for it to be kind of a grown up comedy starring Amy Schumer (and then later Anne Hathaway). That was at Sony, who ultimately lost the option to make the film.

Mattel now has it set up at Warner Bros. and according to THR, Margot Robbie is attached to star. Probably as Barbie, but who can say. She is also going to produce via Lucky Chaps, her production banner.

It’s unknown if the previous idea for the film will be held over for this version or not. The curious thing about a Barbie movie is it can really be whatever they want. The IP is based on a somewhat generic toy. As far as I know, there’s not a deep Barbie canon for fans to get mad about. So yeah! Make a Barbie movie. Go nuts with it! Seem like Robbie’s involvement indicates at least some kind of interesting approach. Let’s hope that turns out to be the case!
