Oh, Cool, Another Story About Henry Cavill And Ben Affleck Being Done With The DCU

Holy shit, are we bored with this topic.

Earlier today we ran a report about Warner Bros.' forthcoming Flash solo movie, wherein we learned that that film was being bumped to 2021. Buried at the bottom of the Variety report announcing that development was something we initially skimmed over.

Namely:

"Following the box office disappointment of Justice League, Warner Bros. has been reevaluating its approach to making movies based on DC Comics characters. The studio is not moving forward with Batman and Superman movies featuring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, respectively. It is expected to recast the Dark Knight with a different actor."

Oh, sweet, yet another suggestion that Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck might not be returning to play Batman and Superman, without an official announcement from the studio or the actors involved. Here's a topic absolutely no one's sick of talking about.

Look: there have, admittedly, been times when all this back and forth was cute. Fun, even. But if Warner Bros. really wants to get the DCU in order (something we're all rooting for them to do!), they need to start making firm decisions, letting the fans in on those decisions, and then moving forward. All this "will they/won't they" shit doesn't help anyone, and only serves to make the entire enterprise feel bush-league and disorganized. It probably goes without saying that the DCU doesn't need any further help coming across as bush-league and disorganized.

So, Cavill and Affleck are done playing Batman and Superman? Great, that's what we're all assuming, anyway. But let's hear that from the studio itself or the actors involved, not from the fifth paragraph of a Flash story that ran at 6PM on a Monday night. Everyone involved - from the fans to the actors to the filmmakers still interested in tackling these properties - deserves better.

What do you think? Bored with this? Wish they'd move on? Are you somehow finding all of this interesting, and hoping that it drags on for another six months? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned for further (official) updates as they roll in.
