The Full Title For BIRDS OF PREY Is Too Goddamn Long To Fit In This Headline

Gonna have to click through, champ.

As you know, Warner Bros. is currently gearing up to shoot one of its more intriguing DC offerings, Birds of Prey. Cathy Yan's directing, Christina Hodson's scripting, and the cast - which includes Margot Robbie (back as Harley Quinn), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (as Huntress), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (as Black Canary), and Ewan McGregor (as the villainous Black Mask) - is well worth getting excited about. We are unironically curious and excited about this movie!

Yan's film won't be out until February of 2020, but today we've got an interesting new piece of information for you, via The Hollywood Reporter:

"[Margot] Robbie has shared on Instagram the title page of Christina Hodson's script for Birds of Prey, which includes a handwritten addition, revealing the name is Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed this is the official title and not just the star having some fun."

Yes, you read that correctly: the film formerly known as Birds of Prey is now titled Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Under no circumstances will we be writing out that full title in our future coverage of Yan's film, because we value our sanity.

One suspects this title will be met with much derision, but...I dunno, gang, we're kind of into it? That title sets a very specific sort of tone, and if Yan's film matches that tone, we may well be onto something very entertaining, indeed. It's also something of a loaded phrase: one assumes Harley must be gaining her emancipation from Jared Leto's Joker, so does that mean we might see him killed off? Humiliated? Maybe just mercilessly beaten by every woman in this film, like Kurt Russell at the end of Death Proof? Put that onscreen and you're looking at a $100M opening weekend, guaranteed.

Anyhoo, please update your Birds of Prey records accordingly, and stay tuned for further updates on this one as they become available.
