Beware The Lighthouse: This Trailer For THE VANISHING Is Tense As Hell

Gerard Butler. Sweaters. A spooky lighthouse. Brusque brogues. A mysterious trunk. Hostile invaders. More sweaters.

This trailer for The Vanishing (no relation to the terrific thriller from the late '80s) has everything, plus Peter Mullan (Session 9) as Butler's fellow lighthouse keeper, run afoul by mysterious misdeeds. The trailer for Kristoffer Nyholm's rainy chiller is quite effective in selling us Gerry Heads on a change of pace for the burly Scottish actor, who leaves his action movie threads behind for something a little more pensively tense and atmospheric.

"On an uninhabited island 20 miles from the rugged Scottish coast, three lighthouse keepers arrive for their 6 week shift. As they settle into their normal quiet routine, something unexpected, potentially life-changing occurs – they stumble upon gold. What follows is a tense battle for survival, fed by isolation, paranoia and greed, leading three honest men down a path to destruction."

The Vanishing hits select theaters and VOD on January 4, 2019. I can guarantee someone from BMD will have a review for you at that point.
