Scott Derrickson Will Return To Direct DOCTOR STRANGE 2

Given how well the original performed, it seemed all but guaranteed that Scott Derrickson would be invited back to direct a Doctor Strange sequel for Marvel, but since that film came along (and raked in over $675M at the worldwide box office), we haven't been sure what was going on with the project.

Here's The Hollywood Reporter with a relevant update:

"Scott Derrickson, who directed and co-wrote the mystical Marvel hero's initial 2016 outing, has quietly finalized a deal to direct the new installment. A search for a writer to pen the script is about to get underway."

That script, by the way, is expected to be written in 2019, with an eye towards Derrickson shooting the Doctor Strange sequel sometime in 2020. Does this mean the next Strange will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame? Probably. Can we safely assume anything else about the film? Probably not.

Indeed, there's nothing further to report at this time, but we're hyped to hear another Doctor Strange is in the cards, and happy Derrickson's getting a second at-bat. Here's hoping the sequel leans even harder into the bonkers Jack Kirby imagery that made the original comics such a joy to read. All of that shit rules very hard.
