Colin Trevorrow Suggests JURASSIC WORLD 3 Won’t Feature Dinosaurs Attacking Cities

This seems to be a lesson in NOT giving the people what they want.

If you're anything like me, you watched the final sequence in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and thought, "Okay, now we're getting somewhere! The dinosaurs are all over the goddamn place now, the entire ecosystem of the world's gonna change, and the next movie will absolutely feature dinosaurs running amok in major cities!"

Not so, says Jurassic World III director Colin Trevorrow:

“I just have no idea what would motivate dinosaurs to terrorize a city. They can’t organize. Right now we’ve got lethal predators in wild areas surrounding cities all over the world. They don’t go pack hunting for humans in urban areas. The world I get excited about is the one where it’s possible that a dinosaur might run out in front of your car on a foggy backroad, or invade your campground looking for food. A world where dinosaur interaction is unlikely but possible—the same way we watch out for bears or sharks.

We hunt animals, we traffic them, we herd them, we breed them, we invade their territory and pay the price, but we don’t go to war with them. If that was the case, we’d have lost that war a long time ago.”

OK, fair point on the whole "losing the war" thing, but who in their right mind doesn't want to see that movie? The first Jurassic World took the action back (yet again) to an island teeming with dinosaurs and human prey. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom mostly relocated the action to a stuffy estate somewhere, where a spook-a-blast/haunted house experience ensued. Fine. But if you end the second chapter of your trilogy with dinosaurs sweeping into the rest of the world, you're sorta making a promise that the next one's gonna feature those dinosaurs terrorizing major metropolitan areas, aren't you?

I suppose Trevorrow's right, and the "foggy backroads and campgrounds" version of Jurassic World III is more realistic than a full-scale dino invasion, but since when has realism been a chief concern for this franchise? And speaking of which, what's the progress look like on that whole "make the dinosaurs shoot machine guns" thing I pitched a while back? Are we any closer to that happening?

Guess we'll find out when Jurassic World III hits theaters on June 11th, 2021.
