The Academy Announces Oscar Contenders In Nine Categories

Ahead of the nominations, see which films made the shortlist for Foreign Language Film, Visual Effects, and more.

The Oscars may not have a host, but they’re edging closer to their list of nominees. The Academy just dropped all of its shortlists at once, narrowing the list of contenders in nine categories from foreign-language film, documentary feature, music, and more. In the past, these lists have been announced individually throughout December, but the Academy has streamlined their voting schedule this year allowing for one big announcement. Going forward, voters will use these lists to select the official nominees.
