Things Sure Look Intense In This Exclusive THE STANDOFF AT SPARROW CREEK Photo
Somehow or another, I missed Henry Dunham's The Standoff at Sparrow Creek when it screened at this year's Fantastic Fest, but everyone I've spoken with who did catch the film tells me the same damn thing: this movie is intense.
That's not terribly surprising, considering that Sparrow Creek's the latest release from Cinestate, a company which, over the past few years, has put itself on the map by exclusively releasing intense-ass movies (see also: Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99, Dragged Across Concrete). These films might not be your cup of tea, to be sure, but the Cinestate folks seem more than comfortable with the idea of not pleasing everyone all the time.
And now, Sparrow Creek. Here's the official synopsis:
"A militia man attempts to find the gunman behind a horrific shooting at a police funeral."
That synopsis hints at the subject matter Sparrow Creek is playing with: armed militia folk (grimace emoji goes here), betrayal, gnarly violence. "Ratcheting tension" and "simmering rage" seem likely to make an appearance, as well. Yup, this definitely sounds like a Cinestate jam.
Anyway, today we've got an exclusive photo from the film:
From left to right, that's Patrick Fischler, Robert Aramayo, Gene Jones, Happy Anderson and Brian Geraghty. I asked for a little context on this pic, and was told the following: "In a pivotal moment in the film, the culprit of a horrific crime is discovered to be amongst their own group.”
First of all: Patrick Fischler? Hell yes. Patrick Fischler owns, and I am thrilled to see him here. Secondly: a bunch of increasingly-paranoid, heavily-armed militia folk hanging out in a warehouse together sounds like the recipe for a very intense time, indeed. I now highly regret having missed this one at Fantastic Fest.

The Standoff at Sparrow Creek will arrive on January 18th, 2019. Y'all gonna give it a whirl or what?
