Paramount Just Announced Two More MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE Movies

And Christopher McQuarrie's directing both of them.

Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Fallout earned nearly $800m at the worldwide box office, racked up some of the best reviews the Mission: Impossible franchise had ever seen, and gave social media one of its greatest memes of all time (Henry-Cavill-Reloads-His-Arms.gif). As such, there was zero question that Fallout's success would lead to another Mission: Impossible; the only real question was when it might arrive, and who might direct it. 

Today, we got an answer...and then some.

According to Variety, Mission: Impossible - Fallout's Christopher McQuarrie has officially signed on to direct two more Mission: Impossible movies. These sequels will be filmed back-to-back, with one arriving in summer 2021 and the other in the summer of 2022. 

McQuarrie seemed to confirm the news himself, on Twitter, moments before Variety's story ran:

McQuarrie coming back for Mission: Impossible - Fallout after directing Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation bucked the franchise's tradition of having a new director come in for each installment. By planting McQuarrie on the next two films, Paramount is sending a very clear message: that tradition is dead. How excited you are about that will largely depend on how you felt about the last two Mission: Impossible sequels. From where we're standing, those movies ruled, so this is great news.

Indeed, this is a time for celebration amongst the BMD staff.
