That New Adaptation Of Stephen King’s THE STAND Is Headed For CBS All Access

Get ready to do a LOT of fan-casting.

A new adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand has been in the works almost as long as I've been writing for this website. At one point Ben Affleck was writing and directing a feature film version, then it was two feature films, then that whole thing fell apart and Josh Boone took over the project, setting his sights on a multi-film endeavor, as well. From time to time Boone would offer updates on the project, but eventually we kinda stopped believing it'd happen. I mean, if the latest Stephen King Renai$$ance couldn't push this thing over the starting line, what could?

CBS All Access, as it turns out. According to Deadline, Boone's adaptation of The Stand is still very much alive, and has been officially picked up by the streaming platform as a 10-episode series. Boone wrote the adaptation with Ben Cavell, and will direct all 10 episodes himself.

Says Boone:

“I’m excited and so very pleased that The Stand is going to have a new life on this exciting new platform. The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling. I believe it will take viewers away to a world they hope will never happen.”

This is an interesting turn of events. Like it says up top, we'd kinda stopped believing this adaptation was ever gonna come together, so it's exciting to hear that it's finally found a home. On the other hand, we were also looking forward to a big, two-movie event, not another miniseries. We'll probably get over that part quickly, though, so let's not dwell.

Instead, let's start talking about how might star in this thing. Readers, start your fan-casting in the comments section below, and do stay tuned for what I imagine will be many, many more updates on Josh Boone's The Stand as it works its way through the production process.
