You Need To Know About The Insane FORREST GUMP Sequel That Almost Happened

Thanks a lot, 9/11.

Everyone - and I do mean everyone, including you, everyone you know, everyone you will ever meet, everyone you'll never meet, and the invisible (and, to date, benevolent) extra-dimensional beings who live all around us - loves Robert Zemeckis' Forrest Gump, the film that quite rightfully demolished Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction for Best Picture at the 1995 Oscars. It almost goes without saying.

But did you know that we almost got a Forrest Gump sequel? It's true.

And did you know that screenwriter Eric Roth even penned a screenplay for it, one he turned in to his studio overlords on September 10th, 2001? Did you know the proposed Forrest Gump sequel would have involved Forrest Gump Jr. having AIDS, Forrest Gump inadvertently ending up in that infamous white Ford Bronco with OJ Simpson, and Forrest Gump's friend dying in the Oklahoma City federal building explosion of 1995?

Well. Now you do.

This is aforementioned screenwriter Eric Roth speaking to Yahoo Entertainment's Kevin Polowy about the Forrest Gump sequel that almost was. Roth believes 9/11 is directly responsible for the death of Forrest Gump 2, and explains that he, Zemeckis and Forrest Gump himself (Tom Hanks) got together on that horrible day to commiserate, only to realize the project no longer had any "meaning". At no point does he seem unsure of the various subplots and highly questionable moments Forrest Gump 2 would have contained.

I don't even know how to end this post. Let's all just sit quietly with our thoughts for a while.
