CinemaCon 2019: New AVENGERS: ENDGAME Footage Reveals A Plan Of Attack

Warning: the following may contain what you'd consider spoilers for Avengers: Endgame.

Today's Disney panel at CinemaCon was a curiously abbreviated affair, wrapping up after just over an hour despite the studio revealing a sprawling slate of 2019 offerings (a slate that only got bigger with the Mouse House's absorption of 20th Century Fox). We caught the first seventeen minutes of Toy Story 4 (it's good!), watched a sequence from The Lion King (your mileage may vary, but I really dug what we saw), the full performance of "Never Had a Friend Like Me" from Guy Ritchie's Aladdin (hard to describe, but it felt like a lot), saw the first footage from James Mangold's Ford V. Ferrari (loved, loved, loved what we saw of this), and - in what was probably the highlight of the entire panel - we were shown a new sequence from Avengers: Endgame.

My suspicion is that what we were shown isn't very spoilery, but on the off-chance that you want to go into Endgame knowing as little as possible, stop reading now. This is your third and final warning.

Alright, here's what we saw: y'know that scene in the Endgame trailer where Thor and Captain Marvel are meeting, and Thor's like, "I like this one"? Well, we saw the footage surrounding that moment. It opened with Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) striding out of the room, prompting Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) to ask, "Where are you going?" 

"To kill Thanos," Captain Marvel says.

On a nearby table, Rocket (Bradley Cooper) is looking at a hologram showing the planet Thanos ended up on at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. He explains that they could travel to this planet, catch Thanos unawares, and possibly force him to undo the damage done when he snapped his fingers. Banner asks, "If we do this, how do we know it'll end any differently?" 

"You didn't have me," says Captain Marvel.

There's a brief back-and-forth amongst the heroes as to whether or not this is a good idea (and, yes, that moment where Thor expresses his appreciation for Captain Marvel's moxy), and then Captain America says, "Let's go get that sonuvabitch." You will probably not be surprised to learn that this line drew an excited response from the crowd. People are ready to see Thanos get his ass whooped.

The footage cut to a title treatment, then back to...space, where the remaining Avengers were assembled inside a ship. Rocket asks, "Alright, who here hasn't been to space before?" (and, if memory serves, warns them not to barf). The ship suddenly rockets forward, traveling into one of those hexagonal travel points we saw the interstellar ships using in Captain Marvel, and then we got another look at the title, along with a release date.

This was pretty rousing stuff, all things considered, and only served to make the wait for Avengers: Endgame that much more difficult. Glad I saw it! Happy I've got the information to report back to y'all! But, man, I don't need any further assistance in the "being hyped to see how this all wraps up" department. Here's hoping we see nothing further until Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
