The STUBER Trailer: Kumail Nanjiani And Dave Bautista, Together At Last

Like COLLATERAL, only with Drax instead of Tom Cruise.

Here are three flavors that we enjoy at Birth.Movies.Death.: Kumail Nanjiani, Dave Bautista, and Michael Mann's Collateral (2004). What happens when you put all those elements in a blender, set the blades to "Buddy Comedy", and hit the power button?

Michael Dowse's Stuber. That's what happens.

When you think about it, Nanjiani and Bautista are both at roughly the same points in their career: both have had achieved success in other films (The Big Sick for Nanjiani, the Guardians of The Galaxy films for Bautista), both are beloved by genre geeks the world over, both are primed to hit big with general audiences. A big, goofy, possibly-violent buddy comedy might be just what the doctor ordered to give 'em that final push over the superstar line.

Here's an official plot synopsis:

"When a mild-mannered Uber driver named Stu (Nanjiani) picks up a passenger who turns out to be a cop (Bautista) hot on the trail of a brutal killer, he’s thrust into a harrowing ordeal where he desperately tries to hold onto his wits, his life, and his five-star rating."

Will Stuber be the film to push Bautista and Nanjiani into the Hollywood stratosphere? We certainly hope so, and we'll know soon enough - this one hits on July 12th.
