That Animated ADDAMS FAMILY Movie Now Has A Trailer

Creepy. Kooky. Mysterious. Spooky. And yet...

Today brings us the first teaser trailer for Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan's The Addams Family, a new animated feature from MGM based on the iconic Charles Addams series of the same name. Unlike the Barry Sonnenfeld films of the mid-'90s, this Addams Family finds the characters animated, their original designs brought to grotesque life via the magic of computers.

How's it look? See what you think:

Look, I've always been a fan of those Sonnenfeld joints (Addams Family Values is particularly undervalued, imho), but this trailer may have finally made me realize how much I love those live-action versions, and it's hard not to compare. The vocal cast seems to be giving it their all, but even folks as talented as Charlize Theron (as Morticia) and Oscar Isaac (as Gomez) can't erase the memory of Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston's pitch-perfect turns in the same role. The character designs (as faithful to the source material as they may be!) are truly off-putting in three dimensions, rendering the whole thing far less easy on the eyes than Sonnenfeld's take on the material, and the jokes here feel notably less biting (and funny). This version of The Addams Family doesn't look bad, per se, but it also hasn't sold me yet.

Oh, well. They've got until October 11th to convince me. How 'bout y'all? You into this? Not so much? Are you, like me, merely inspired to revisit the Sonnenfeld versions? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned for more on The Addams Family as further updates become available.
