Those of you who've read Garth Ennis' The Boys probably won't be surprised to learn that the latest trailer for Amazon's forthcoming adaptation of that comic features face-sitting, exploding heads, bad words, and - in one particularly memorable shot - Karl Urban firing a laser-eyed baby like a gun. That's just the sort of comic book The Boys was.
Also, just hearing that description, you probably know whether or not this show is right for you.
This is our best look yet at The Boys, from executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. To my eyes, they've really captured the comic's over-the-top approach to superheroes. Ennis and Darick Robertson's series treated superheroes like barely-controllable (and often entirely uncontrollable) celebrities, many of whom were using their invulnerability to get away with every kind of bad behavior imaginable, and it looks like that'll be the case on the show, too. In both, a rag-tag group of regulators (the titular "Boys") does what it can to keep these superpowered Caligulas in line, with frequently violent results. Will the show's excesses prove as ultimately tiresome as the comic's? Time will tell.
We'll find out soon enough: The Boys hits Amazon Prime on July 26th. You gonna tune in for it? Sound off below.
