This Supersized HOBBS & SHAW Trailer Has EVERYTHING

Ejector seats! Three-way fistfights! Black Superman!

A few weeks ago, in Las Vegas, Universal rolled out several minutes' worth of brand-new Hobbs & Shaw footage. Landing somewhere in-between a sizzle reel and an oversized trailer, what we saw that day was an absolute blast: huge stunts, legitimately funny banter between the film's two leads (Jason Statham and The Rock), a bulletproof Idris Elba, and much, much more. At the time, I figured Universal would whittle that footage down into a standard 2.5 minute clip, something they could easily put in theaters, but I also remember thinking, "Man, they should release exactly what we just saw."

Today, I am thrilled to report that my wish came true: they released the super-sized CinemaCon trailer for Hobbs & Shaw

Obviously, there's a lot to unpack here: that opening sequence with Hobbs & Shaw fighting side-by-side through a maximum security facility, Idris Elba announcing that he's "Black Superman" (this line got a huge response in Vegas), a visit to the Hobbs homestead (complete with a traditional dance!), an untold number of exploding cars, people running down the sides of buildings, ejector-seat related pranks...y'know, I look at all this, and I wonder if it's even possible that there'll be a more fun movie this summer than Hobbs & Shaw.

Here's a synopsis:

Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.

But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.

Hobbs & Shaw blasts open a new door in the Fast universe as it hurtles action across the globe, from Los Angeles to London and from the toxic wasteland of Chernobyl to the lush beauty of Samoa.
