LA Readers: We’re Giving Away Two Badges For MaltinFest!
Leonard Maltin is one of America's most beloved film critics and cinephiles, and his inagural film festival is set to kick off next weekend at the Egyptian theatre in Los Angeles with some fantastic screenings, equally awesome guests, and more. MaltinFest, co-sponsored by the Alamo Drafthouse, is taking place from Friday, May 10 through Sunday, May 12, and if you live in or around the LA area, we've got a pair of badges to give away to a couple of lucky readers. We recently chatted with Maltin about the upcoming festival, which includes screenings of cult favorites Citizen Ruth and Absolute Beginners, along with a very special screening of The Death of Superman Lives, and live podcast recordings featuring Doug Benson and Joe Dante. In case you needed even more reasons to want to attend, here's a few:
The fest kicks off on Friday with a screening of Please Give, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Nicole Holofcener, who will also be in attendance. Doug Benson will record a live episode of Doug Loves Movies featuring special guests Samm Levine (Freaks and Geeks) and Amy Miller, followed by a screening of Sing Street and an ’80s-themed party sponsored by the Scum and Villainy Cantina. And that's just the first day! Saturday boasts screenings of Citizen Ruth (with Laura Dern and director Alexander Payne in attendance), Big Eyes (with screenwriting duo Larry Karazsewski and Scott Alexander), and The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? – which has not been screened since the passing of director Jon Schnepp. His producing partner and wife Holly Payne will be present for a very special Q&A following the screening. On Sunday, Joe Dante and Josh Olson will be recording a live episode of their podcast Trailers From Hell with Leonard Maltin himself. The fest concludes with Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla, and they'll be screening Lugosi's very own personal print.
