They’re Finally Moving Forward With A HELLRAISER Reboot

Look, it was only a matter of time before someone got around to rebooting the Hellraiser franchise, so this shouldn't really come as a surprise, but: according to Variety, a Hellraiser "revival" is currently in the works over at Spyglass Entertainment, with David S. Goyer onboard to both write the screenplay and produce the film. 

Goyer, as you probably already know, is best-known for his work on Chris Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, the Blade trilogy and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. He's a guy whose screenplays and stories tend to traffic in dark, gritty material, so you can kinda see what might've brought him around to this particular property. Is he the right person for the job? Well, uh, guess we'll find out soon enough - Variety says the project's being fast-tracked into production.

As for the Hellraiser franchise, well, we're pretty big fans of that series here at Birth.Movies.Death. (I am on record as kinda-sorta recommending the most recent installment, Hellraiser: Judgment, and I'm not sorry about it) and only want good things for it. That said, we're also fully aware that the vast majority of Hellraiser movies are not that good, and so - with that in mind - our sincerest wish is that the new Hellraiser simply doesn't embarrass anyone, up to and including Doug Bradley, who damn well better play Pinhead in this movie.
