Finally, DETECTIVE PIKACHU Gets The Noir Trailer It Deserves

Move over, Ryan Reynolds. Humphrey Bogart is BACK.

This week, we're all looking forward to the candy-colored, Ryan Reynolds-voiced decadence of Pokémon Detective Pikachu (look for our review at 11AM CST), a film which may or may not have the power to finally convert the Pokémon-agnostic members of the BMD staff into Pokémon True Believers. The trailers have been fun, the VFX look great, and we're always down for a good ol' fashioned mystery. Indeed, the only way we'd be more excited about Pokémon Detective Pikachu is if the film were to lean even more heavily on the various trappings of the noir genre.

Lucky for us, Birth.Movies.Death. reader J.S. Lewis has imagined just such a thing...

The video above arrived in our inbox earlier today, along with the following note:

"In honor of this week's highly anticipated release of Pokémon Detective Pikachu, I wanted to give the film an old school makeover in the form of a classic Hollywood noir trailer with none other than Humphrey Bogart voicing the titular gumshoe! I believe this is something the BMD community, of which I'm a proud member, will thoroughly enjoy!"

We tend to agree. This is a fun little what-if, and we're always happy to see the weirdo work being done by BMD readers on their own time. Well done, J.S.!

Pokémon Detective Pikachu hits theaters this weekend.
