Somewhere in the back of my mind is a distant memory of having seen 2013's Escape Plan, the rock 'em, sock 'em actioner that finally allowed Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sly Stallone to share the silver screen. I remember there was a prison, that a portion of this prison (maybe all of it?) was underwater, and that Stallone and Schwarzenegger had to escape from it. That's it. That's literally all I remember. My awareness of Escape Plan begins and ends with that vague memory.
As such, you can imagine my surprise upon realizing that they're still making sequels to that movie: a direct-to-video sequel (which lost Scharzenegger while gaining David Bautista) called Escape Plan: Hades arrived last year to precious little fanfare, and today we're learning that a third Escape Plan has been produced.
Titled Escape Plan: The Extractors, the film finds Bautista and Stallone's characters teaming up with a character named Shen (Max Zhang) to track down the kidnapped daughter of a Chinese billionaire. Their quest brings them to a location called Devil's Station, which appears to be just about as inviting as it sounds.
Like Escape Plan: Hades before it, it appears Escape Plan: The Extractors will skip theaters and head straight to home video and streaming on July 2nd, upon which time it will become a movie we all watch while hungover on a lazy Sunday afternoon at some point in the distant future.
Thanks, Escape Plan: The Extractors!
