Jemaine Clement Just Joined The AVATAR Sequels

In which the Hiphopopotamus heads to Pandora.

Here's an interesting update: according to Variety, Jemaine Clement (Flight of The Conchords, What We Do in The Shadows) has joined the cast of James Cameron's Avatar sequels, where he'll be playing a marine biologist by the name of Dr. Ian Garvin. There's no indication as to how many of James Cameron's Avatar sequels will feature Clement's involvement, but we're holding out hope that he finds his way into all fifteen of them.

Says Cameron:

“I’ve loved Jemaine’s work for years and I’m really pumped that he’s joining our cast as Ian Garvin, one of my favorite characters."

One has to assume, given Clement's history, that he's being brought onboard to lend the Avatar sequels a certain comedic touch. It's a fun thing to consider, Clement as the comic relief in a James Cameron movie, and it'll be interesting to see what Cameron does with Clement's very particular onscreen presence. Maybe by the time this is all said and done, we'll see Clement's character uploaded into the blue, lanky body of a Na'vi warrior. That'd be something.

Anyway, beyond their perpetually changing release dates, we know very little about Cameron's Avatar sequels, and look forward to learning more in the months, years and decades ahead. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in, and feel free to head on down to the comments section if you've got anything to add to all this.
