WATCH: Netflix’s THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE Looks Incredible

Check out the wildly expensive-looking first teaser trailer here.

Listen, I know the Jim Henson Company does not play games. They're wildly talented individuals, some of the best in the business, and any project they're involved with is sure to look great. I also know that Netflix has money to burn (billions of dollars, apparently), and that they've been positioning this forthcoming Dark Crystal series as one of the crown jewels in their original programming collection. Of course they were gonna spare no expense.

But even knowing all that, I was dumbfounded by how gorgeous (and, yes, insanely expensive) The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance looks in practice. I mean, just look at this first teaser trailer:

Pretty amazing, right? As I've noted in previous Dark Crystal posts, I'm largely unfamiliar with the mythology of this series (mine was a Labyrinth household; you were only allowed to be one or the other in the late '80s, it was a law), but I'm impressed by everything going on here and eager to learn more. Fantasy stuff is usually not my bag, but this looks like something I might actually be able to get into. I mean, if nothing else, it'll be an absolute treat for my eyeballs.

Anyway, here's an official plot synopsis:

"The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world."

And here's a cast list, which is so substantial that it's gonna take up its own damn paragraph: Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nathalie Emmanuel, Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Donna Kimball, Alice Dinnean, Louise Gold, Neil Sterenberg and Victor Yerrid. That's an astounding lineup (note: any lineup which includes Harvey Fierstein is an astounding lineup, this is also a law).

On top of everything above, they've also released the first official poster for the series. It, too, is a looker:

But where are you folks at? Think you'll give The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance a go when all ten of its hour-long episodes hit Netflix on August 30th? Sound off below, and stay tuned for more on The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance as we draw ever closer to that release date. We're excited for this one.
