We’re Getting A New Series Based On BRAVE NEW WORLD

Starring Demi Moore and Alden Ehrenreich, no less.

Here's an unexpected development: Amblin Entertainment, UCP and the USA Network are teaming up for a brand-new series based on Aldous Huxley's classic science fiction novel, Brave New World (y'know, the one you read sophomore year of high school...unless you were unlucky and forced to read the stupefyingly boring A Separate Peace instead*).

Another adaptation of Brave New World may not, on the surface, sound terribly exciting. But, intriguingly, this version seems designed to be an open-ended series rather than a limited one (Deadline only refers to the project as a "series", not) a "miniseries" or "limited event series") and they've already assembled a formidable cast to bring it to the screen, including Demi Moore, Alden Ehrenreich, Harry Lloyd and Jessica Brown Finlay. In addition to that, they've brought in David Wiener, Grant Morrison and Brian Taylor to write it.

If you're unfamiliar, here's the plot, via Deadline:

"As citizens of New London, Bernard Marx (Lloyd) and Lenina Crowne (Brown Findlay) have only ever known a rigid social order, a perfect pharmaceutical called Soma, and a culture of instant gratification and ubiquitous sex. Curious to explore life beyond the strictures of their society, the two New Worlders embark on a vacation to the Savage Lands, where they become embroiled in a harrowing and violent rebellion. Bernard and Lenina are rescued by John the Savage (Ehrenreich), who escapes with them back to New London. John’s arrival in the New World soon threatens to disrupt its utopian harmony, leaving Bernard and Lenina to grapple with the repercussions. The three become entwined in a fraught relationship that awakens them to the dangers of their own conditioning."

We're curious to see what Amblin, UCP and USA do with this property, and doubly curious to see what Ehrenreich does with the role of John the Savage (look, we know Solo: A Star Wars Story wasn't great, but we think that has very little to do with Ehrenreich's skills as an actor). Consider us intrigued!

We'll be keeping an eye on this one going forward, and will let you know if there are any further updates. Stay tuned.

* = Sorry, A Separate Peace megafans.
