Ian McKellen’s Up To Something In The First Trailer For THE GOOD LIAR

It's a Hitchcockian thriller from Bill Condon. We're in.

Back in April, at CinemaCon, Warner Bros. showed us the very first trailer for Bill Condon's The Good Liar, a Hitchcockian thriller (based on the Nicholas Searle novel of the same name) starring Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren. We'd have been sold solely on the basis of "Bill Condon does a twisty thriller", but the cast's great, the source material's rock solid and the trailer was downright awesome.

Today, I'm pleased to report the first trailer for The Good Liar has made its way online, so that all of you might look upon it and understand why we're so damn excited about this one.

Please do so now.

I've been warned by more than one person not to dig too deep into The Good Liar, that it contains a pretty fantastic twist that really shouldn't be spoiler for anyone who's not read the book or planning to see the movie. I'll be taking that advice, watching no further trailers for this one and biding my time until it hits theaters later this year. A new Condon - particularly a sinister little thriller starring Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen - is something I'd very much like to experience completely cold, thank you.

Here's a plot synopsis, in case you're unclear on the plot:

"Career con artist Roy Courtnay can hardly believe his luck when he meets well-to-do widow Betty McLeish online. As Betty opens her life and home to him, Roy is surprised to find himself caring about her, turning what should be a cut-and-dry swindle into the most treacherous tightrope walk of his life."

This one arrives on November 15th, just in time for both awards season. The buzz is strong. Our bodies are ready. We'll see ya then, The Good Liar
