SDCC 2019: Here’s A New Look At TERMINATOR: DARK FATE

Place your bets, TERMINATOR fans.

What are we to make of Terminator: Dark Fate?

On the one hand, the Terminator franchise hasn't produced a solid entry in years. It's a dinosaur, a relic lumbering along through sheer force of will and the star power of Arnold Schwarzenegger. On the other hand, the Terminator: Dark Fate footage we were shown at CinemaCon kicked a considerable amount of ass, the director (Deadpool's David Leitch) is saying all the right things, and earlier today we learned - from James Cameron, no less - that Edward Furlong would be reprising his role as John Connor in the film. Much to consider.

Anyway, here's a new featurette on the making of the film. It's relatively brief, but shows off a little more of what'll be waiting for us when Dark Fate hits theaters in November.

As you've surely heard by now, Terminator: Dark Fate will feature Linda Hamilton reprising her most iconic role, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and a talented cast of performers that also includes Mackenzie Davis, Natalie Reyes, Gabriel Luna and the aforementioned Edward Furlong. The plot apparently revolves around Hamilton's Sarah Connor joining forces with Davis' cyborg to protect a young girl (which young girl? We have no idea!) from yet another killer robot from the future, but who knows how all that will factor into the increasingly convoluted Terminator franchise timeline.

All we really know is that what we're seeing here looks moderately better than it did the last few times a Terminator sequel was up to bat, and we're feeling cautiously optimistic. Like, super cautious. So cautious in our optimism that it might not even register to your eyes and ears. "Hopeful" is probably overstating things, but it's somewhere in between that and "utterly despondent". You, of course, are free to feel however you'd like to feel about Terminator: Dark Fate. We're accepting everything from "Nope, not getting fooled again" to "Holy shit get this in my eyeballs right this minute". It's just a Terminator movie, after all.

Let us know where you stand in the comments below, and do stay tuned for more out of SDCC (and more on Terminator: Dark Fate!) as further updates become available. Terminator: Dark Fate hits theaters on November 1st.
