SDCC 2019: The First TOP GUN: MAVERICK Trailer Has A Need For Speed

Tom Cruise is headed back into the Danger Zone.

Well, here's something we weren't expecting today: the very first trailer for Joseph Kosinski's long-gestating, allegedly-troubled, exceptionally slick-looking sequel to 1986's Top Gun, aka The Movie My Dad Has Seen More Than Any Other Movie.

It has everything you might want in a Top Gun sequel trailer: people singing in a bar, Tom Cruise wearing a fur-lined jacket, lots of aerial stunts, Tom Cruise flashing his grin on a motorcyle, sweaty hunks playing volleyball, and - last, but certainly not least - a reprise of that iconic theme song.

See what you think:

See what I mean? This has all the familiar symptoms of a Top Gun movie. Plus Jon Hamm (Note: The inclusion of Jon Hamm makes everything better by at least 400%)! Is this a sequel we need? Absolutely not. Is there reason to be cautious, given the numerous setbacks this project endured throughout its production? Definitely. Am I an easy lay who got sold on a ticket the very second that theme song kicked in? You bet your sweet ass.

Here's an incredibly brief yet very official plot synopsis:

"Pete "Maverick" Mitchell mentors a new generation of U.S. Navy fighter pilots."

Aaaand here's a new poster:

What do you folks think? Like what you see here? Think it'll be too much of a rehash? Are you a sucker for Tom Cruise doing badass stunts and don't really care about whatever else might be going on in this motion picture?
