The Newest AD ASTRA Trailer Has Everything
James Gray's Ad Astra has had a bumpy road to the screen, with release date switcheroos and a curiously muted marketing campaign, but now that it's been resituated in September, things are starting to pick up. This latest trailer, which just arrived in the BMD inbox, is our best look at the film yet ... and also the most exciting.
So, strong Interstellar vibes going on here. Maybe a few Solaris vibes, as well. For a long time, we assumed this one would be a somewhat stodgy affair, but this trailer seems to be promising something much more exciting: space explosions! A dune buggy chase on the moon! Brad Pitt encountering what can only be described as a holographic beefcake cowboy! Tommy Lee Jones looking crusty as hell! The cinematography looks sharp, the performances look solid (Pitt, in particular, looks truly engaged by the material), and there's a pronounced sense of scope here that simply wasn't in the previous teaser. Long story short, we're way more excited about Ad Astra than we were before we watched this trailer.
This new poster, well, it could maybe use some work.
Here's an official plot synopsis, if that's your thing:
"Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos."
What do y'all think? Into this trailer as much as we are? Think you'll give Ad Astra a show when it hits theaters on September 20th? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned for more on this one as further updates roll in.
