Jeff Bridges Will Headline FX’s THE OLD MAN
Jeff Bridges has done it all, but he's never headlined his own TV series. That will soon change with FX's The Old Man, which (according to Variety) Bridges has just agreed to star in.
What's The Old Man about? Says Variety:
"Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, The Old Man centers on Dan Chase (Bridges), who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past."
So Jeff Bridges was a rogue CIA agent who, after years of living in hiding, is now being hunted by assassins? This would be a terribly rude thing to do to Jeff Bridges, but in the context of an FX series we can imagine that being very entertaining, indeed. Will Bridges get ripped for this role? Get trained in hand-to-hand combat? Maybe it's a thing where Bridges' character is super gifted when it comes to making elaborate booby traps, a skill he uses to immobilize and eliminate those who would seek to capture him. Maybe he'll be a bumbling oaf, narrowly escaping imprisonment and/or death through nothing more than blind luck. Maybe we should read the book The Old Man is based on to have these questions answered.
Says Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX Entertainment:
“Jeff Bridges is an iconic, extraordinary actor and to have him as the star of this series is an incredible moment for FX. Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine have delivered an amazing pilot script and Jeff is perfect for the role of Dan Chase. We’re also happy to be working with Warren Littlefield, with whom we’ve had such a terrific partnership on Fargo, along with our partners at Fox 21.”
Nothing further to report at this time, but production on The Old Man is expected to begin this fall, so we can probably assume this'll hit FX sometime later next year. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in.
