The CARNIVAL ROW Trailer Is Filled With So Much Magic And Whimsy Your Head Just Might Explode

Faeries and romance and serial murder, oh my.

We haven't been keeping much of an eye on Amazon's long-gestating Carnival Row, but today that inattentiveness has been brought to a shuddering halt with the arrival of the series' first trailer, which is positively bursting with mythological creatures, magic, old-timey London street action (including hustle and bustle), daring acts of courage, and star-crossed romance.

Also it appears to have a serial murderer in it, and those are always kinda cool.

Well, it's clear Amazon spared no expense here! Carnival Row looks pricey, filled with elaborate sets and relatively decent CGI effects and two mid-tier stars (Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne) headlining things. There's an intriguing "Penny Dreadful + Gangs of New York" vibe going on here, one that's just as enticing as the production values. Sure, we'll watch a few episodes of this.

Here's a lengthy plot synopsis, via Amazon:

"Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne star in Carnival Row, a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures whose rich homelands were invaded by the empires of man. This growing immigrant population struggles to coexist with humans in the grimiest section of the city -- forbidden to live, love, or fly with freedom.

But even in darkness, hope lives, as a human detective, Rycroft Philostrate, and a refugee faerie named Vignette Stonemoss rekindle a dangerous affair despite an increasingly intolerant society. Vignette harbors a secret that endangers Philo's standing during his most important case yet: a string of gruesome murders threatening the uneasy peace of the Row. As Philo investigates, he reveals a monster no one could imagine.
