Sony Just Purchased Insomniac Games
In something of a surprise development, Sony announced today that it has purchased Insomniac Games, makers of last year's excellent Spider-Man PS4 game. Heretofore, Insomniac has enjoyed a long-standing working relationship with Sony (they also made the Ratchet & Clank games), but it hasn't been an exclusive one. Today's news changes that, so if you were holding out for a Sunset Overdrive sequel, uh, sorry.
Says Ted Price, Insomniac Games’ founder and CEO:
“Joining the WWS family gives Insomniac even greater opportunities to achieve our studio vision of making positive and lasting impressions on people’s lives. We’ve enjoyed a special relationship with bePlayStation practically since our inception.”
Given how much we enjoyed Insomniac's Spider-Man game (and, yes, given that BMD is mostly a PS4 household), we certainly aren't opposed to the idea of another Insomniac Spider-Man game; hell, we might even play a few more of 'em. But here's hoping the folks at Insomniac like working with that property, because that's likely gonna be their prime directive moving forward.
With that in mind, Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 seems all but guaranteed now. We're betting that when it does arrive, it'll be on the PS5. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in.
