IMAX Trailer For AD ASTRA Pretty Much Guarantees You’ll See This Movie In IMAX

James Grey's sci-fi epic looks stunningly gorgeous.

Today brings the release of a third (and, presumably, final) trailer for James Grey's Ad Astra, this one selling the film's IMAX presentation. Of course the sheer size of an IMAX screen can't really be communicated via video embed on your phone or laptop, but what can be communicated is how beautiful this movie looks. As such, this thing is filled with money shots.

Check it out:

Ad Astra's had a very odd journey to the screen. The announcement of the film was trumpeted from the rooftops - a James Grey sci-fi epic starring Brad Pitt, holy shit! - but then many months went by without any further updates. The film missed a release date or two before finally being positioned in September of this year. All that foot-dragging (and, yes, rumors about production woes) had some folks wondering if this one wouldn't turn out to be a stinker.

Then the trailers started rolling out, and it started to seem like all that handwringing had been for nothing: unless they're just getting very, very lucky with the edits on these, Ad Astra looks pretty damn awesome. Here's an official plot synopsis, if you'd like one:

"Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos."

Far as we can tell, Ad Astra looks to be a sci-fi film in the vein of Chris Nolan's Interstellar, maybe even Andrei Tarkovsky's (or Steven Soderbergh's) Solaris. These are precisely the sort of sci-fi movies we enjoy more than any other, so consider us fully onboard the Ad Astra train. We'll be there when it opens on September 20th*. How 'bout y'all?

* = This is a lie. We'll be at Fantastic Fest when Ad Astra opens. But like the minute it's over, we're checking it out.
