Things Are Looking Tense Over At Fox News In The First BOMBSHELL Trailer

This is one helluva teaser.

Today brings us the first teaser trailer for Jay Roach's star-studded Fox News takedown, Bombshell, which arrives in theaters later this year. Starring Charlize Theron (as Megyn Kelly), Nicole Kidman (as Gretchen Carlson), Margot Robbie (as Kayla Pospisil) and John Lithgow (as the odious Roger Ailes), this one finds Roach working back in the same kind of political territory he's spent the past decade mining for content.

How's it look? Intense.

This is a strong teaser trailer. With virtually no dialogue, just a bit of music and a few visual signposts (the elevator button! The reveal of the Fox News sign!), this trailer manages a level of intensity generally reserved for the horror/thriller genre. My stomach was in knots by the end of this thing! That'll do, Bombshell marketing team. That'll do.

Here's an official plot synopsis:

"Based on the real scandal, BOMBSHELL is a revealing look inside the most powerful and controversial media empire of all time; Fox News, and the explosive story of the women who brought down the infamous man who created it."

Earlier this year, Showtime rolled out The Loudest Voice, its own highly-buzzed-about Roger Ailes project. That series, which stars Russell Crowe (under a truly distracting amount of unconvincing prosthetics) has been somewhat fun to watch in a trashy soap opera sorta way, but also seems to have left very little imprint on the pop culture landscape. My suspicion is that many folks are simply tired of hearing about the horrors of the real world, and don't need them bleeding into their TV and movies - one of the last real refuges we have from all this bullshit. With that in mind, I'm wondering what your interest levels are like in a movie like Bombshell
