Liam Neeson Will Match Wits Against A Frozen Ocean In THE ICE ROAD

Listen, I don't know much, but I do know this: if there's one thing Liam Neeson loves more than casually confessing to wildly problematic things during junket interviews, it's making movies where he gets to do heroic shit in freezing temperatures. Cold Pursuit. The Grey. Darkman, if Darkman had snow in it.

And now we're getting The Ice Road, a new Jonathan Hensleigh film that's partially inspired by Henri-Georges Clouzot’s 1953 classic, The Wages of Fear.

What's The Ice Road about? Deadline says:

"Neeson will play a ‘big-rig’ ice road driver who, after a remote diamond mine collapses in the far northern regions of Canada, must lead an impossible rescue mission over a frozen ocean to save the trapped miners. Contending with thawing waters and a massive storm, they discover the real threat is one they never saw coming."

If The Ice Road is taking inspiration from The Wages of Fear, "the real threat...they never saw coming" could be the weight of Neeson's big-rig on that frozen ocean (in Wages of Fear it was trucks carrying nitroglycerin, but the weight of the trucks was also a bit of an issue). Why one wouldn't see that coming is anyone's guess (it's a gigantic goddamn truck; you put it on frozen ice, you're definitely running some kinda risk), but we'll wait to see how that element shakes out before roasting Neeson too hard about it.

Oh, and if the name Jonathan Hensleigh's familiar, that's because he's the guy who wrote Jumanji, Armageddon, and directed The Punisher (Not that one, the other one. Yeah, the one with John Travolta in it. Let's not dwell). He'll begin shooting The Ice Road in January.
