WANDAVISION Announces Returning MCU Characters, New Details
One of the more curious offerings coming to Disney+ this fall is WandaVision, the new series from Marvel Studios featuring Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. As previously teased by Olsen herself, the series will have a distinctively... quirky tone akin to a 1950s television sitcom. During tonight's big Disney+ panel at D23, Marvel revealed some exciting new details about the series, which is inspired in part by The Dick Van Dyke Show. Randall Park will reprise his role as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo, with Kat Dennings also returning as fan-favorite Darcy (mew-mew!) from the Thor movies. But the wildest news had to be that her royal acting highness Kathryn Hahn has also joined the series, playing Wanda's "nosy neighbor."
While few plot details were shared, we know that the show will follow Wanda in the wake of the events of Endgame, in which – spoiler alert? – Vision took one for the ol' team and died real good. Many fans have reasonably speculated that WandaVision will have an abstract/psychological element; taking a cue from the popular comic book arc House of M, the series might see a grieving Wanda retreat into her psyche, where she builds an ideal world. (That arc also involves Charles Xavier, and wouldn't that be a hell of a way to introduce him to the MCU.) WandaVision is said to be arriving sometime in 2021, so we still have quite the wait ahead of us.
