If Enough Of Us See KNIVES OUT Rian Johnson Might Do Another One

Over the weekend, our own Kambole Campbell caught the TIFF premiere of Rian Johnson's Knives Out, and he returned with excellent news: the movie is apparently great (it's currently sitting at 100% over on Rotten Tomatoes), a twisty, turn-y, surprisingly funny whodunnit featuring a killer cast and what is, by all accounts, a very satisfying mystery.

The rest of the BMD team will have to catch Knives Out at Fantastic Fest next week, but until then, here's a bit more potentially good news: in a new interview with Uproxx (all of which is worth reading, by the way), Johnson says he'd be willing to return to the Agatha Christie well for another murder mystery starring Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc...assuming that enough people show up for this one. 

Says Johnson:

"I’ll tell you, the truth is I had such a great time working with Daniel Craig and I had so much fun doing this on every level, from writing it to making it. I’ve never really been interested in doing sequels, but this, the idea of doing more of these with Daniel as his character, is not sequels. It’s just what Agatha Christie did. It’s just coming up with a whole new mystery, a whole new location, all-new cast, whole new mechanics of the appeal of a mystery and everything. It’d be a blast."

 A series of darkly comic murder mysteries for adults, starring Daniel Craig's chicken-fried investigator character? Hell. Without even seeing Knives Out, I'm prepared to call that a good idea. The multiplexes could use a new wave of mysteries, and if Craig's character is delightful as all these reviews say he is, this could be a fun thing for the actor to do once he's done wrapping his schedule around the Bond franchise.
