The New Trailer For Sam Mendes’ 1917 Has You In Its Sights

Back when we wrote up the first trailer for Sam Mendes' 1917 - a forthcoming WWI movie starring Mark Strong, Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch - we thought it looked pretty good! A simple men-on-a-mission flick, a talented director at the helm (with no less than Roger Deakins serving as cinematographer), a solid cast. Pretty neat!

In the time since, we've learned that 1917 has one helluva trick up its sleeve: it will appear to be shot in one continuous take.

Obviously, we're guessing the film's actually comprised of many single-take shots (with cuts hidden via digital FX and the like), but it does make the whole thing a bit more intriguing. Of course, there's an argument to be made that single-take projects tend to pull some audience members out of the experience (I, for one, can never concentrate on the action if I'm constantly looking for those telltale filmmaking seams), but even then...you kinda see how they pulled it off, right? We do.

Here's an official plot synopsis:

"Two British soldiers embark on a dangerous mission to save 1,600 men from certain doom during World War I."

This one lands at Christmas, which means that all involved are probably positioning this one as a would-be awards contender.
