Trent Reznor And Atticus Ross’ Brilliant WATCHMEN Score Is Headed To Vinyl
Having now seen the first six episodes of HBO's Watchmen, I feel confident saying the following: Damon Lindelof has pulled off something that borders on the miraculous, Regina King and Jean Smart are both award-worthy in their roles, and Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross' sublime score is one of the best of the year (we may, in fact, be one step closer to a Reznor EGOT).
In the wake of last night's premiere, many fans were wondering if HBO might release Reznor and Ross' score, either digitally or via physical media. It didn't take long for an answer to arrive:

THE SCORE WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THREE UNIQUE VOLUMES, RELEASED AT STRATEGIC TIMES OVER THE ROLLOUT OF THE SERIES. THE ONLY PHYSICAL MEDIA WILL BE 180G VINYL.
CREATED IN COLLABORATION WITH THE SHOW’S WRITERS, EACH LP FEATURES THE SCORE FROM ACADEMY AWARD WINNERS TRENT REZNOR AND ATTICUS ROSS, AS WELL AS ARTWORK AND PACKAGING EXCLUSIVE TO THIS VINYL RELEASE THAT EXPLORES THE CULTURE OF WATCHMEN AMERICA AND PROVIDES REVEALING INSIGHTS INTO THE SAGA’S MYTHOLOGY AND MYSTERIES.

That's from Nine Inch Nails' homepage, and tells you pretty much everything you need to know: the Reznor/Ross Watchmen score is headed to vinyl (and only vinyl) across three volumes, with digital releases planned shortly after the release of each physical volume. According to the Amazon listings, each of these volumes, which feature a total of 39 tracks (!!!) can be acquired for roughly $26. As of this writing, no cover art has been revealed, but we're willing to bet that it ends up looking very sharp, indeed. This is, after all, a Reznor/Ross release.

Personally, I was hoping for a set, something that'd collect all three volumes and come in a fancy-pants box, but this will do nicely. Based on what I've heard thus far, this is probably my favorite Reznor/Ross score since their Oscar-winning soundtrack for The Social Network, so I'll be happy with whatever I get.
