Yes, that's right: Amazon Studios' The Power, based on the award-winning novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman and featuring an all-female writers' room (good for you, Amazon!), will take place in a world where teenage girls are inexplicably granted the power to electrocute chumps at will. As the tweet above notes, the show will also star Leslie Mann as an ambitious politician.
Admittedly, we were not aware of Alderman's novel when the tweet above crossed onto our radar, but that's entirely a failure of awareness on our part - turns out this one's something of a big deal! Alderman's novel was named one of the 10 best books of the year in 2017 by the New York Times, won the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction, and has been championed by no less than former President Barack Obama as one of that year's best books. And now it will serve as the basis for a bonkers-sounding new Amazon series that we will absolutely be tuning in for. Huh. Learn something new every day!
We're very curious to see how this shakes out (and, indeed, to now read Alderman's The Power), so stay tuned for further updates on this one as they roll in. In the meantime, any of y'all read Alderman's book? Sound off in the comments below.
