New JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL Trailer Reminds Us The Rock Is Playing Danny DeVito In This Movie

Also that this movie comes out in, like, a month and a half.

All the way back in July, which now feels so long ago that it might as well be the mid-'80s, the very first trailer for Jake Kasdan's Jumanji: The Next Level arrived. It was then that we learned something magical: this sequel would feature The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) playing Danny DeVito (Frank Reynolds). There's an in-movie explanation for this that's right in line with the mythology established in 2017's Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle, but come on - the explanation is almost irrelevant. If your movie features The Rock doing a sustained Danny DeVito impression, guess what? That's a movie we're showing up for. Everything else is secondary. 

Well, some months have passed now, and in that time you might have forgotten that Jumanji: The Next Level would feature The Rock playing Danny DeVito. Hell, you might've even forgotten that Jumanji: The Next Level hits theaters this December. Please allow this newly-released trailer to remind you that both of these things are true. 

So, this continues to look like a perfectly reasonable way to spend 100 minutes in a movie theater this December. The 2017 Jumanji turned out to be way more entertaining and charming than we expected, and it looks like that'll probably be the case here. You've got a new game world, everyone's channeling new characters (including someone being played by a horse), and the set pieces look varied enough. It's another Jumanji movie, and all that that entails...but also it has The Rock playing Danny DeVito, so right off the bat you're getting a bonus. Pay attention, literally every other sequel currently in development.

Here's an official plot synopsis:

"In Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect. The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world's most dangerous game."

Nothing further to report at this time, gang. Either you're seeing this on December 19th or you're waiting in line for Tom Hooper's Cats, which opens on December 20th. There are no other viewing options in theaters this December, so please plan accordingly.
