We caught Richard Stanley's Color Out of Space back in September, at this year's Fantastic Fest (where I called it "a goddamn triumph"), and in the time since we've been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the film's first trailer, so that you, too, could finally see how gorgeous and creepy this HP Lovecraft adaptation really is.
Well, folks, today's your lucky day.
Doesn't that look great?! It is! Stanley (who wrote and directed) really captured the creeping dread of Lovecraft's work with this one. Yes, the film contains big SFX sequences (including some gnarly body-horror stuff), and yeah, the story's been updated to take place in the present day, but none of that does anything to lessen the madness and horror of the source material. Oh, and on top of all that, you get a top-shelf Nicolas Cage performance, to boot.
Here's an official synopsis, for anyone unfamiliar with the source material:
"After a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farm, Nathan Gardner (Nicolas Cage) and his family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism as it infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a living nightmare."
Folks, we cannot wait for you to see this movie, and the good news is that you won't be waiting much longer: Color Out of Space hits theaters on January 24th of next year. Go ahead and mark your calendars now, and stay tuned for more on this one as we draw closer to the film's release.
