NEON’s Bringing Bong Joon-ho’s MEMORIES OF MURDER Back To Theaters

This morning, the folks over at Variety ran a gigantic new interview with Parasite director Bong Joon-ho, all of which is well worth reading, but just before the interview begins in earnest, Variety drops an exciting little bombshell: according to their report, our friends at NEON have purchased the rights to his 2003 film, Memories of Murder, and plan to re-release it into theaters and on Blu-ray.

For those unfamiliar with the film, Memories of Murder is something of a serial killer thriller, shot through with Bong's trademark dark sense of humor and based on an actual case that rocked South Korea back in the mid-'80s (think: South Korean Zodiac, though this film obviously pre-dated Fincher's). The film found itself back in the news recently when South Korean authorities finally identified the perpetrator of those murders, and now it's set to enjoy new life thanks to the folks at NEON. 

NEON's enjoyed quite the working relationship with Joon-ho over the years, so this move makes sense, and it's great news for anyone who recently climbed aboard the Bong Joon-ho train thanks to Parasite. As of this writing, there's no firm release date in place for either the theatrical re-release or the Blu-ray release, but rest assured we'll keep you informed as further updates roll in. Stay tuned.
