The First NO TIME TO DIE Trailer Is Here
Can it really be as little as 14 months since the production of the film we were then calling Bond 25 was seemingly in total disarray following the departure of director Danny Boyle? Well, ever since Cary Joji Fukunaga was announced as the new director it really hasn’t put a foot wrong (unlike Daniel Craig) and now here we are, seeing the first trailer for the 25th James Bond film, No Time To Die.
Let’s check it out:
Wow. Worth the price of admission for the shot of the spinning Aston Martin DB5 doling out lead salad alone, but there’s a real sense here of a Bond movie completely in keeping with the previous entries in Craig’s run but not bending over backwards to hark back to the past: it’s got its own identity and energy from the off.
Clearly Madeleine Swann is integral to the plot rather than fridged in the pre-title sequence, and the antagonism Nomi displays towards Bond is going to be delicious to see play out. Christoph Waltz is indeed back as Blofeld with some secrets to spill, and that interrogation scene immediately cuts off a few obvious paths the story could go down. Best of all, it’s a trailer that keeps the movie’s key mystery regarding Rami Malek’s Safin intact: here’s hoping it stays that way.
Exactly how No Time To Die handles the ideas introduced in SPECTRE is one of its biggest challenges, but on this evidence it’s not impossible that it might even be clever enough to retroactively redeem that movie. As it stands, this looks and feels like a Bond movie, and specifically a Daniel Craig Bond movie: Fukunaga’s pulled it out of the fire and it’s difficult not to be excited to see what the rest of the film has to offer.
