Y'know, it's really refreshing not knowing a goddamn thing about Christopher Nolan's Tenet. In this line of work, you tend to have entire movies spoiled long before they hit theaters (if it's not leaked scripts it's leaked casting documents; if it's not leaked casting documents it's something inadvertently revealed by some paparazzi photographer taking pictures near a set; if it's not any of those things, the studio itself spoils the movie with a trailer that tips its hand too far in the wrong direction), and most of us know jack-shit about this one.
We know who's in it - Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Himesh Patel, Kenneth Branagh, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, John David Washington - and we know when it'll be out (July 17th), but beyond that and a teaser trailer that a) was only shown in theaters, prior to Hobbs & Shaw and b) didn't really tell us anything about the film itself, it's been all quiet on the Tenet front. And when Nolan's involved, that's exactly how we like it.
Today, however, Warner Bros. is finally starting to pull back the curtain a bit.
This, as you can see, is the very first trailer for Christopher Nolan's Tenet. As we've been told for months now, it appears to be a spy story of some sort, though it's somewhat unclear whether Tenet will also be dipping into other genres (maybe science fiction? Time travel? What exactly happened with that flipped car towards the end of this trailer?). Lots to sort through here and much to chew over, but my prevailing thought in this moment is: "Thank God they're still not telling us much."
As mentioned about, Christopher Nolan's Tenet will hit theaters on July 17th, 2020.
