SILENCE OF THE LAMBS To Get Inevitable TV Show Sequel Named CLARICE

Delectable.

As TV continues to shake the branches of every recognizable intellectual property for any last potential seed of an adaptation or continuation, it seems inevitable that someone would take another stab at bringing Thomas Harris' The Silence of the Lambs to home television screens. According to Deadline, this time it comes courtesy of Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet over at CBS in the form of Clarice, which will follow Clarice Sterling about a year after the events of that first Hannibal Lecter movie. Hannibal himself, however, will not be making an appearance.

Instead, we're going with a period piece/police procedural route, keeping in continuity with the film by setting the show in 1993, but focusing on the pursuit of other serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the political structures of Washington D.C. I've certainly heard worse pitches, and it sounds like CBS thinks so too. Though only a pilot has been ordered, the series has already set up a writers room for the eventuality of a series order, so they're putting a lot of faith and resources behind this one.

Of course, this wouldn't be the first time Thomas Harris' characters have been adapted to the small screen. NBC's Hannibal was an offbeat, gory, homoerotic take on Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham, and it was one of the best things on TV for the three seasons it aired. Since that didn't exactly pull in the ratings, though, my assumption is that CBS will play it safe with a more traditional case-of-the-week format for Clarice. But hey, if the writing is good, they get a good actress to play Clarice, and the show actually capitalizes on having such an iconic protagonist by exploring her mind a bit, I'll happily give this show a shot.

We'll keep you posted should Clarice make it to air, but in the meantime, how do you folks feel about this? Excited to see another take on the Clarice Sterling? Or are you just stanning for a fourth season of Hannibal that is never, ever going to happen? Comments section, you know what to do.
