JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot To Bring JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK To TV And Film
If you've been paying attention over the past decade or so, you know that there are few things in this world that Warner Bros. enjoys as much as almost - but, crucially, not quite! - turning Justice League Dark into its own film or TV franchise. Oh, they love to bring in top-notch talent to almost tackle this property! Guillermo del Toro, Doug Liman and others have tried their hand at getting a Justice League Dark movie made over the years, but (per tradition) none of these attempts ever make it across the starting line. It's a real bummer, honestly, because there's lots of material to work with within the Justice League Dark world; if you paired the right director with some of these characters, you'd probably have quite the stew goin'.
Well, it's been a while since we heard anything on Justice League Dark finding its way to the big screen, but today we have a compelling update: according to Deadline, JJ Abrams and the good folks at Bad Robot, through their lucrative new deal with Warner Media, are "exclusively developing both film and TV ideas based on DC’s Justice League Dark universe at Warner Bros."
What does that mean, exactly? Well, assuming that everything goes according to plan, it means that Bad Robot will soon be producing both TV and film properties based on the characters you know and love from Justice League Dark (I probably didn't need to spell that out - Deadline's report seems to be fairly straightforward! - but this is the internet, where it never hurts to restate the obvious), which may include John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zantanna and Shade, the Changing Man. All of these characters and more will be up for grabs, and it'll be Bad Robot's job to figure out which belong on television and which belong on movie screens. And, y'know, if anyone's gonna get this thing going, it'll probably be Bad Robot.
Deadline's report says that all of this is still in its nascent stages, but rest assured that we'll keep you informed as further updates roll in. Which of these characters are you hoping to see on HBO Max? Which would you rather see given the big screen treatment? Are you, like us, still bummed that Guillermo del Toro's take on this property never came together? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned.
