ATX Announces SCRUBS And COUGAR TOWN Reunions
ATX TV Festival is gearing up in (just!) four months. While some programming has been announced already, this morning a BUNCH of great shows were announced to join the party come June 4-7, 2020.
First off, if you’re a fan of the Bill Lawrence-verse (yeah, I’m making that a thing) you’re going to want to snap up a pass for the whole weekend. Two of his most beloved shows are staging reunions this year! First, Scrubs is making the rounds (hospital joke!) with a reunion of all our favorite docs, and Lawrence himself to talk all things Sacred Heart. No word yet on whether Rowdy, the taxidermied dog, will make an appearance. Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, Neil Flynn and Christa Miller are all confirmed to be attending.
Continuing the Lawrence-fest, join the party in Austin for a Cougar Town reunion, along with co-creator Kevin Biegel. The Cul-De-Sac Crew is getting together five years after the last episode aired, and this one is jam packed with stars like Josh Hopkins, Christa Miller, Ian Gomez, Busy Philipps, Dan Byrd, Brian Van Holt and (you know you Cougar fanatics want to know) Tom himself, Robert Clendenin, will be there too! I can only hope that there will be copious amounts of red wine involved, too, and hopefully, a game of Penny Can.
The party doesn’t stop with these shows, though. Full Frontal with Samantha Bee has been confirmed to be there, along with the new Nancy Drew series on the CW.
My personal favorite announcement from the morning, though, is that The Other Two is going to be coming to Austin to chat all things ChaseDreams. How this show hasn’t caught on in a Broad City way is beyond me, but the good news is they’re having a Q&A and screening ahead of their second season. Do yourself a favor and circle back on season one of this show. Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider wrote together on SNL for years, and Kelly also worked on Broad City for a couple seasons. In fact, Paul W. Downs (Trey from Broad City) and Lucia Aniello, perennial BC director, wrote an episode of season one of The Other Two. This show has the best-inherited elements from both SNL and Broad, along with the genius additions of Wanda Sykes, Molly Shannon and Ken Marino, whose participation in anything ought to be grounds alone for mandatory viewing. This show is a great addition to an already heavy-hitting ATX lineup.
Well played, ATX TV Festival. Well played indeed…
